“Hesitation Cocktail” - 2 of 22

I’ve got another incredibly exciting KRONAN serve today. As Sweden wanted to expand their trade into East Asia, many sailing tradesmen started to quickly deplete the rum they’d travelled with for the journey, we all know that
feeling. They needed an alternative, and they found it in Batavia Arrack. Which is best to think of as an Indonesian take on rum, and not to be confused with Arrack from other countries, which can actually be an anise
type spirit.

Bartenders will have no doubt heard of Batavia Arrack, and this is where the Swedish Punsch we know today began its interesting journey into the stunning product on display. A product that works incredibly well as the main player in a cocktail, as shown by this inverted Old Fashioned adaptation of the 1930s cocktail.

When I saw this inverted OF spec, I was blown away in all honesty, I love seeing really out of the box specs, and if you use a high proof rye whiskey here, you’ll get a sweet yet refined cocktail, maybe even add a few dashes of
bitters or saline to further develop the flavours. Harry Craddock definitely stumbled upon a beauty of a drink on his travels researching for The Savoy Cocktail Book!
